Laurel Island

The residents of Laurel Island will have the opportunity to enjoy rights to the Oxley Club, a swim and tennis facility with fine dining, as well as a spa and fitness center.  The simple, yet elegant, charm of a classical 18th century English country manor house and estate will dominate the architectural style of the structures and grounds associated with the Oxley Club, where wood—mold brick exteriors cloaked in manes of periwinkle, ivy, and resurrection fern will bring back to consciousness the deep colonial history of this place and the wealthy rice planters who once harvested its bountiful tidal lands.  The Oxley Club is planned to be located on a point of land just off of Laurel Island on the mainland, overlooking the Crooked River estuary, with the Oxley Club planned to include guest suites, as well as serving as a club house.  In addition to the Oxley Club, residents will be able to enjoy a series of amenity pools strategically located throughout Laurel Island.

In pursuit of a more pristine, natural profile for the Island, there will be no individual docks at Laurel Island.  Nevertheless, the marina and yacht club, and the Township’s ancillary marina and community dock facilities, are planned to provide boating and yachting enthusiasts with an extensive network of boat slips within easy walking distance of their homes.  The marina and yacht club are planned to be located at Alligator Point, on the northeast tip of the island, with approximately ten community docks and several additional marina facilities planned to be strategically located around Laurel Island.  Given the steep bluffs at Laurel Island, as well as the many places where the river directly interfaces with the land, these community docks and marinas can be relatively hidden directly below these bluffs, thus further preserving the natural views and ambience of the beautiful place. From these docks and marinas, residents will have the opportunity to crab or fish, and generally become more intimately connected to the water, without ever having to step onto a boat.

Lying just east of Laurel Island, the south end of Chipper’s Island is intended to become home to the beach club, where an infinity pool, surrounded by sandy white beaches, is planned to optimally capture winter sunlight, wile the mature live oak canopy to the north cloisters sunbathers from a breezy northeaster.  The kayak club is planned for the north end of Chipper’s Island, where laid-back dining and drinking can be enjoyed in a Bohemian setting.
