In keeping with Laurel Island’s vision of a destination whose natural experience is second to none, the design, infrastructure and covenants are directed by a rare sensitivity to the environment.

State-of-the-art adaptive reuse technologies are planned to be utilized at Laurel Island.  In an effort to avoid unnecessary depletion of fresh water aquifers located below coastal Georgia, high-quality reuse water will be earmarked for the irrigation of public and private green space, including yards, parks and the adjacent Laurel Golf & Lawn Club.  This water will be treated to a level that is of considerably higher quality than minimum EPA drinking water standards.

In keeping with this philosophy, we seek to implement cutting edge geothermal heating and air technologies.  Not only will such technology reduce energy consumption by drawing on the relatively stable ground temperatures, it will dramatically reduce noise pollution from HVAC systems, allowing residents to more fully enjoy such subtleties as the cackle of the marsh hen, the soothing murmur of the tides, or the splashing of playful dolphins.  These sounds of nature go to the very essence of the life at Laurel Island and should not be unnecessarily intruded upon by the incessant sounds of today’s mechanical conveniences.

Several thousand old-growth specimen trees have been carefully catalogued and located so that these priceless natural treasures can be preserved and enjoyed by generations to come.  Also, an approximately 25 foot-wide conservation easement is planned to run along the approximately 3.5 miles of high bluffs that span the circumference of Laurel Island.  An oyster shell pathway will meander through this easement area, serving not only as a panoramically beautiful circuit for a morning jog or bike ride, but also as a natural venue for serendipitous exchanges between neighbors and friends.
